2010 Regional Minimum Reserve Levels

AEMO has recently completed a six month process of recalculating the Minimum Reserve Levels to apply in each NEM region. ROAM Consulting was engaged to assist with this project.

AEMO uses MRLs as a vital input to both long and medium term forecasting – through the ESOO (Electricity Statement of Opportunities) and the MT PASA (Medium Term Projected Assessment of Supply Adequacy).

The MRLs align with the Reliability Standard set by the Reliability Panel, and are used to signal tight supply-demand balance conditions in the NEM. In some cases, shortfalls with respect to the MRLs can trigger AEMO interventions in the market.

From a planning perspective, the levels also highlight opportunities for industry investment over the longer term.

Presented below is the final report on the 2010 calculation Minimum Reserve Levels.
